Hwang Jae-gyun Shares Cryptic Update After Divorce, Targets Jiyeon? “Put on Your War Paint

On January 8, Hwang Jae-gyun posted on his personal account with the caption “2025” alongside the background music of “The Phoenix” by American rock band Fall Out Boy.

The lyrics of the song include lines such as, “Put on your war paint / Hey young blood, doesn’t it feel / Like our time is running out / I’m gonna change you like a remix / Then I’ll raise you like a phoenix.”
This marks Hwang Jae-gyun’s first SNS post since his divorce from Jiyeon in November last year. The cryptic nature of the lyrics has drawn attention, with many speculating whether they reflect his current state of mind.
In particular, while many believe the song to be Hwang Jae-gyun’s simple expression of cheering himself up, many paid keen attention to the part “Put on your war paint“. Accordingly, the “war paint” here refers to a custom of North American natives, who paint their faces and bodies before engaging in battle. As a result, people suspect that the lyrics hint at Hwang Jae-gyun’s intention to wage wars against his former wife, Jiyeon (though this was mere speculations).

At the same time, the latest update of Hwang Jae-gyun has drawn many criticisms, especially from fans of his former wife, who called the athlete “not a true man”. These people claim that since June, the baseball player has been locking his SNS to avoid criticism, letting Jiyeon face public scrutiny aid their divorce news, only to return after things have largely died down.
They also pointed out that when Hwang Jae-gyun got involved in a violence scandal, he also locked his SNS, leaving his wife to face criticisms and even having to halt YouTube activities.
Additionally, now that he has opened his SNS again, Hwang Jae-gyun has unfollowed Jiyeon, while the latter, along with her friends and close acquaintances, still follow the baseball player.
Meanwhile, Hwang Jae-gyun and Jiyeon tied the knot in 2022, frequently sharing glimpses of their sweet newlywed life on SNS. However, just a year and a half later, rumors of their divorce began to surface in June 2024.

Both parties remained silent until October 2024 when they officially confirmed the divorce. At the time, Jiyeon’s legal representative stated, “The couple could not overcome their differences and, after a period of separation, agreed to divorce. They have filed for divorce mediation at the Seoul Family Court to proceed with the process.”
